The invention refers to an installation for detecting coil insulation faults in high voltage engines, before mounting, in which a stationary test signal of average frequency supplied by an inverter (6) via an adapter transformer (5), is applied to the search coil (1) that is located in an ionised enclosure (3). The frequency of the inverter is assigned by a switch (10) connected to an input of a pulse generator (9), which generates rectangular impulses of pre-established frequency. A starting unit (11) actuated by a starting push button (12) is connected to another input of the pulse generator (9), while the third input of the pulse generator (9) is connected to the output of a stopping unit (13), which is actuated by a stop button (14) and a protection counting unit (15), that adds up the outputs of some units for protection against overcharging (16), over-temperature (17) and short-circuits (18). The installation also enables the efficient detection of any insulation faults which are not net short-circuits.
