PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkali dry cell which reduces the migration of electrolyte in a gelatinous anode to a cathode compound side during the period from assembly to use, namely, during the period of battery preservation, and enabled to keep a discharge capacity until usage. SOLUTION: The alkali dry cell comprises a metal cathode case, a cylindrical cathode compound arranged along the inner surface of the cathode case, a cup-shaped separator arranged inside the cathode compound, a gelatinous anode filled inside the separator, a water-repellent agent layer arranged at least between the cathode compound and outer peripheral surface of the separator or between inner peripheral surface of the separator and the gelatinous anode.
