PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a fault of a server on a data network. SOLUTION: This web monitor monitors trouble or a fault by automatically sending the request to a web page URL of the web server periodically at intervals. When a connection with the server can not be established, if the web page of the server can not be accessed within a predetermined time, or if the contents of an answer page from the server are not expected ones, this is ineffective trial to the web server. After the ineffective trial to the server reaches a predetermined frequency, it is decided that the server is in trouble or fault mode. According to the decision that the monitored server is in the faulty state, the web monitor automatically generates and e-mails or sends a message to 91 system administrator, other persons, or machines by pagers or telephone calling and notifies the recipients of the trouble of the server.
