<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing toner having sharp distribution of the grain size, excellent coloring power and excellent electrification characteristics. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the toner, a monomer composition containing at least a polymerizable monomer and a pigment is added in a reaction medium essentially comprising an organic solvent, at least the polymerizable monomer is dissolved in the reaction medium to polymerize the monomer composition, and the polymer produced by polymerization is precipitated from the reaction medium to produce toner particles. The pigment is subjected to surface treatment with a treating agent and the treating agent has at least two kinds of functional groups. At least one functional group (X) can form a covalent bond with a functional group (P) on the surface of the pigment. At least one of other functional groups (Y) of the treating agent is copolymerizable with the polymerizable monomer.</p> |
