PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce wear of the brushes of a DC motor, and to reduce the manufacturing cost of the brushes. SOLUTION: Brush holders 29, 30 are fitted to a base board 28, and brushes 26, 27 to which pieces of electric wire 37, 38 are connected and brush springs 33, 34 are inserted into the brush holders 29, 30. When fitting the base board 28 to a motor, the brushes 26, 27 are moved backward resisting the brush springs 33, 34, and a clip 49 is inserted into the ear portions 45, 46 of the brush holders 29, 30 and loop portions of the pieces of wire 37, 38, and the brushes 26, 27 are held at moved-back positions. After a commutator is inserted into an opening 28A under this condition, the chip 49 is detached, and the brushes 26, 27 are brought into contact with the commutator so as to slide on the commutator. Since the tip parts of the brushes 26, 27 do not have any steps for hooking or jointing the clip 49, the area of moving and sliding of each brush touching the commutator becomes wide, and its wear is reduced. Also the manufacturing cost for the brushes 26, 27 is reduced, since machining on the stepped parts becomes unnecessary.
