PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To omit a large-scale guide device for the elevating guide of a hydraulic hammer used as a driving device, and suppress the diffusion of pile driving sound to the outside. SOLUTION: In this pile driving method and pile driver, a pre-pile P1 arranged in a leader 7 is driven into the ground C with a hydraulic hammer 8 elevated inside the leader 7 along the inner surface of the leader as a guide, and then the pre-pile P1 is pulled out to open a pile hole. After housing the pre-pile P1 in the leader 7, a main pile P2 is drawn into the leader 7 and driven into the pile hole with the same hydraulic hammer 8.
