PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink cartridge capable of sealing an ink supply opening surely when it is not loaded to a recorder without lowering the sealing power of a tubular packing, and capable of opening a valve surely by an ink supply needle having a tapered forward end when it is loaded to the recorder. SOLUTION: The ink cartridge comprises an ink chamber for containing ink, an ink supply opening communicating with the ink chamber and inserting/drawing an ink supply needle, a packing placed in the ink supply opening and having a through hole being fitted to the ink supply needle, and a valve element contained in the ink supply opening and coming into resilient contact with the ink chamber side surface of the packing thus sealing the through hole to be opened/closed freely wherein the packing is provided with an annular protrusion protruding to the ink chamber side and abutting against the valve element.
