<p>A method of making a biocompatible coating for an implant involves thermally spraying a feedstock of nanostructured agglomerated particles of a biocompatible material onto a substrate, and controlling the spray parameters such that the agglomerated particles strike the substrate as a mix of fully molten and semi-molten particles and the semi-molten particles become distributed throughout the coating.</p>
