The concrete is prepared by a method comprising the following steps: (1) mixing the concrete ingredients and measuring the torque exerted on the mixture over a period of time in order to obtain a reference curve for the change in torque as a function of time; (2) mixing the ballast having an increased water content with the cement; (3) mixing in a first amount of water; (4) measuring mixer torque over time at a constant mixer speed once all the water has been added; (5) calculating the second amount of water which has to be added in order to provide the desired water content in the concrete, based on the reference curve and actual torque measurements; and (6) obtaining a homogenous mixture once the mixture has a predetermined consistency and air content.
