The present invention defines an apparatus 1 for ventilating a patient Pa by high-frequency ventilation which has a high frequency generator 13 and a pressure and flow regulator 11A flow source 15 connects through a flow sensor 25 to the patient. In use a frequency and a mean pressure can be set as desired values of the generator and a predetermined tidal volume maintained. The present invention also specifies a corresponding method for regulating an apparatus for ventilating a patient by high-frequency ventilation and a method of ventilating a patient.
