PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a refractory material with excellent resistance to corrosion and infiltration by mixing particles of magnesia source with respective particles of titania and alumina sources so that the weight ratio: TiO2 /(TiO2 +Al2 O3 ) comes to a specific value followed by either melting the mixture or baking it at a specific temperature or higher to form a MgAl2 O4 -Mg2 TiO4 -bassed solid solution. SOLUTION: First, a magnesia source such as granular magnesite with a size of <=100 μm and purity of >=90 wt.%, a titania source such as granular anatase, and an alumina source such as granular aluminum hydroxide are mixed together in the weight ratio: TiO2 /(TiO2 +Al2 O3 ) of 0.1-0.9. Secondly, the mixture is either granulated or molded, and then either melted or baked at >=1,300 deg.C to form a MgAl2 O4 -Mg2 TiO4 -based solid solution. Thirdly, the solid solution is crushed and then incorporated with granular magnesia and a binder followed by carrying out a press molding and then baking the molded form at >=1,300 deg.C to obtain the objective shaped refractory material such as baked brick, alternatively, after molded, allowing the molded form to be dried to obtain the other objective prepared unshaped refractory material to be baked at high temperatures under service. |
