1336855 Expansible pipe joints FRIEDRICH UHDE GmbH 18 Nov 1970 [18 Nov 1969] 54824/70 Heading F2G [Also in Division B1] A first pipe, central of a catalyst bed, is coupled to a second pipe, extending freely through the base of a heat exchanger above the bed, by a bellows section under a longitudinal compressive stress, the expansion of the section being limited and a gas-tight seal being provided between the exterior of the second pipe and the base of the heat-exchanger. Successive heat exchangers 3, 13 of a gas phase reactor are connected by the pipes 1 and 8 passing through the catalyst bed 4 and the upper exchanger baseplate 12. The bellows section 5 is enclosed by a shell 6 welded to the first pipe 1, a flange 7 being welded to the second pipe 8 to limit expansion. A screw-threadedly-adjustable flange 16 compresses packing 15 in the base-plate 12, and the prestress of the bellows section 5 compresses a gasket 11 by means of a collar 9. |
