Methanising catalyst prepn. by pptn. from alcoholic Ni salt solns. contg. dissolved Al- or Mg cpds. is effected with aq. alkali borohydride together with aq. alkali carbonate solns., opt. in the presence of a carrier, e.g. kieselguhr. Catalysts are used for C oxide conversion, by hydrogenation, to CH4. Methanising activity and catalyst service life are improved.
