A safety device for rail vehicles includes a transmitter for radiation of electromagnetic radiation of predetermined frequency and a receiver coupled to the brakes of the vehicle, together with a switch changing the transmitter to another frequency on change of section of the track. A stirrup mounted below a rail vehicle carries a number of reed switches for selection of one of twelve separate frequency channels, to be radiated by a transmitter. The reed switches are operated by a permanent magnet mounted on a sleeper in the vicinity of the points. The receiver is coupled to a magnetic valve in the brake air line and operates the brakes to prevent a collision when it receives a signal of same frequency indicating that another train is present in the track section.
|
