(A) Cephalosporin derivs. are of formula (I) and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts are new: (R1 is X-CHA-CO-, Y-CH2-CO- or Z-S(O)m-CH2-CO-; X is thienyl, dihydrophenyl, phenyl, or phenyl monosubtd. by OH, CH2OH, formamido, ureido or NHCH2COOH; A is NH2, OH, COOH, SO3H or, when X = phenyl, formyloxy; Y is CN, aminomethylphenyl, thienyl, tetrazolyl or a sydnone or pyridone gp.; Z is CH3, CF3, trifluoroethyl, pyridyl or cyanomethyl; m = 0, 1 or 2; n = 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5; R2 is OH, NH2, lower alkylamino or di(lower alkyl)amino). (B) Also new are intermediates of formula (III) (see "Preparation").
