The utilisation of the energy of the wind has long been done with the aid of sails. The application to ships requires the sails to be expertly hung with respect to the wind. In order to use wind energy locally, sails have been bound to crosses which have a transverse axis and from which the energy is extracted by belts or toothed gears. Even vanes with large spans and a rapid rate of revolution cover only a small region of the wind blowing onto them. Since each location typically has main wind directions, an elongated system set up high above the ground can capture the wind and use its energy if devices capture the wind and generate electrical power by endless circulation on the system. For this purpose, the present invention connects a circulating way of the type of a cableway, to linear generators which can be switched over to linear motors. Carriages travel on the circulating way which carry Flettner rotors, and mounted on the latter are magnets which interact with the magnetic strips of the way to convert the energy of the wind into current.
