The mats (4) of asphalt are laid on the bottom of the water tank, and the wagon (1) which applies asphalt to the joints is lowered onto the mats. The wagon, which is driven on wheels (3), is linked by a pipe tp a floating reservoir for material on the surface. A current from a source (7) above the water is fed via a cable (6) to insulators, embedded in the mats. - The current return is via a probe (8), which is partially submerged in the water. The field detector (10) on the wagon ensures that the wagon moves along the joint correctly as the joint is filled.
