In a drill stand for portable drills, in which the machine holder (3) can be moved continuously up and down along a toothed polygonal guide column (2) by means of a gear drive (5, 6, 7), a depth stop device is provided which consists of a clamping piece (4) which can be secured on the guide column (2) above the machine holder (3), a drilling-stroke-return tension spring (23) fixed between clamping piece (4) and machine holder (3), and an adjustable rod (17) which passes through the clamping piece (4) and a top wall (16) of the machine holder (3) and carries one stop head (18, 19) each at both ends. <IMAGE>
