In a back-lit LCD assembly in which symbols, text, or indicators in different regions can be illuminated by different colours of light, the region to the rear of the display is divided by a baffle (18) into light chambers (16,17) corresp. with the different regions (A,B), each chamber containing light sources (20,22,23) of resp. different colours. At least one light chamber (17) may contain two differently-coloured light sources, only one of which is energised at any one time. Background illumination may be provided by white light sources (20,22) in each chamber, or a single light source may illuminate both via a gap in the baffle. At least one chamber (17) may have a reflector (21) to reflect light towards its region (A) of the display. |
