<p>A description is given of a system comprising a generator and a receiver of signals for locating conductors in telephone cables and the like. The receiver 3, which is compact and can be held in one hand, 31 comprises, in combination, a high-sensitivity class A-B amplifier 31; a low-inductance diffuser 33; and a probe 21 fitted directly into the receiver without a connecting cable.
