PURPOSE:To provide the position recognizing method which can recognize exactly and quickly a position of an object, even if a part of an outline of the object is not clear on an image. CONSTITUTION:By picking up an object by an image pickup means, a gradation image is obtained, the gradation image is scanned by an outline scanning window A consisting of a scanning outline 8 being equal to an outline of the object on this gradation image, and plural density correlation lines 9a-9h being orthogonal to this scanning outline 8 and for measuring image density of the inside and the outside of this scanning outline 8, and at every density correlation line 9a-9h, the absolute value of a difference between a measured density total value of an inside density correlation line consisting of prescribed number of inside image density measuring points and a measured density total value of an outside density correlation line consisting of a prescribed number of outside image density measuring points is calculated, and a position of the outline scanning window A in which the number of the density correlation lines in which this absolute value is larger than a prescribed density threshold becomes maximum is detected as a position of the object. |
