PURPOSE: To control damage to a centrifuge in the case of failure of a rotor by equipping a seal device for sealing an open space formed between a body member of a shell-type rotor and an upper plate, and protruding a seal ring in the case of the breakage to lower the rotational speed of the rotor. CONSTITUTION: An empty space 36 is formed between an upper plate 24 and a body member 12, and for preventing a liq. sample fluxed in case of damage of a sample vessel C from the empty space 36, a sealing 38 is disposed between the body member 12 and the upper plate 24. The shell-type rotor 10 is designed so as to occur the breakage of the rotor in a high stress region in a groove 24G of a skirt portion 24S, and the breakage of the skirt portion 24S forms an opening 46. A centrifugal force in this opportuniuty acts to the sealing 38 so as to protrude a portion of the seal ring 38 facing the opening 46 through the opening 46, and the protruding portion 38P of the seal ring 38 generates windage loss force tending to lower the revolutional speed of the shell-type rotor. |
