PURPOSE: To print clearly and beautifully with multi colors when heat-sensitive recording and thermal transfer recording are both used, by setting a heat- generating head for heat-sensitive recording and a heat-generating head for thermal transfer recording in a printing head separately from each other, and carrying out thermal transfer recording after heat-sensitive recording. CONSTITUTION: A printer head 28B is provided with a heat-generating head 150 and three ribbon cases 152a-152c. The heat-generating head 150 is constituted of a head 150a for heat-sensitive recording, an ink ribbon 154 and a heat- generating head 150b for thermal transfer recording of the same count. The ink ribbon 154 is obtained by setting a thermal transfer layer on the surface of a supporting body. A desensitizing substance for suppressing a heat generation reaction between leuco dye and a color developer of a heat-sensitive recording layer of a heat-sensitive recording sheet 20, a colored dye and a colored pigment are contained in the thermal transfer layer. Thermal transfer recording is carried out by the heat-generating head 150b at a recording area recorded with the use of the heat-generating head 150a, thus achieving multicolor printing.
