<p>A waveform generator (20) is provided having a power divider (24) for dividing power from a signal source (18) fed thereto. A plurality of amplifiers is provided. A plurality of switches, each one thereof being coupled to a corresponding one of the plurality of amplifiers, couples the power from the divider to a power combiner (52) through a selected one, or ones of the plurality of switches and the corresponding one, or ones of the amplifiers coupled thereto, in accordance with control signals fed to the plurality switches. A controller (56) is provided having a shift register section (66). The shift register section has a plurality of successively coupled storage stages, each stage providing one of the control signals for a corresponding one of the plurality of switches. The controller, in resonse to a pulse duration/rise time signal, produces a sequence of control signals for the plurality of switches for controlling the number of amplifiers coupled between the power divider and power combiner.</p> |
