PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct a highly reliable and high density recording by compensating for a portion of the phase of output signals and advancing to the direction corresponding to the distance in which a magnetic head moves against a magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: Recording data enter into a modulator 7 and process original data under a certain rule so as not to generate a number of 'O's that does not exceed a prescribed number. Then, the output is transmitted to a precoder 8 and is processed to generate the code which has a strong characteristic against the interference among adjacent signals. A shift amountΔ, that represents the difference between a writing clock and the timing in which an actual writing operation is executed, is computed by a recording equalizer 1 and is written into a recording medium by a magnetic head 9. The electric signals read by the head 9 during a reading are amplified by a preamplifier 10 and operated to a certain timing by a PR equalizing circuit 11 and an ML decoding circuit 12. Then, a portion of the phase of the output signals is compensated for and advanced to the direction corresponding to the distance in which the head 9 moves against the medium.
