PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine a laser diode (LD) bias current value and LD pulse current value, without deteriorating the extinction ratio, even if the I-L characteristic changes into nonlinear type about an LD current supply and designing method thereof. SOLUTION: Optical output values P2 and P3 at the turn on and off of an optical signal required for obtaining at least desired extinction ratio have been determined previously. An LD current supply 2 feeds and LD module 1 with a drive current to output an optical signal from the module 1. By varying the drive current, the output values corresponding to the turn on and off of the optical signal are measured. When the optical output values P2, P3 agree with the values respecting the drive currents I2, I3 are measured. The LD bias current Ip3 and LD pulse current Ip3 are computed. |
