Sealing of electrolytic cells

An electrolytic cell arrangement has a membrane (3) arranged between two frames (1 and 2) and an integral packing (4) with two sealing regions of different densities arranged between the membrane (3) and at least one of the two frames. The less dense sealing region can be compressed until it is as dense as the other sealing region and has a sealing function, whereas the denser sealing region has a spacer function. Both sealing regions are made of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene. The less dense sealing region preferably forms a bead-like projection above the surface of the first, denser sealing region. Also disclosed is the use of this packing for sealing an electrolytic cell and a process for sealing an electrolytic cell.
