Two battery packs are mounted on their mounting sections, supply electric power to sections of a personal computer through a port, and are charged with electric power supplied from an AC adapter connected to an AC power source through the port. Lock sections which serve as mounting mechanisms are provided with switches interlocking with the lock sections. The outputs of the switches are supplied to CPUs which serve as mode control sections. The CPU switches the operation modes of the battery packs by controlling the CPUs which also serve as switch control section in the battery packs according to the mounted states of the battery packs inputted from the switches. Therefore, the momentary stop of power supply which occurs when the batteries are removed can be prevented without complexing the structure of the device and increasing the cost.
