A novel compound which is useful as an active constituent of a pest controlling agent is provided. The compound is an acrylonitrile-based compound represented by formula (I), wherein Q is a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl or the like, X is a substituted or unsubstituted naphthyl or -J, Y is -C(=O)R1, -C(=S)R2 or the like, R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted alkynyl or -SR3, R2 is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or the like, R3 is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or the like, and J is a 5 or 6-membered heterocyclic group having 1 to 4 atoms of at least one heteroatom selected from the group consisting of O, S and N, with the proviso that X is not a pyridyl group, and a salt thereof.
