PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a frame image specifying device which is capable of reducing a cost by abolishing a line sensor (image plane detecting sensor) for detecting the edges of frame images. SOLUTION: This frame image specifying device 1 specifies the positions at the edges of the frame images from a transporting roller mechanism for transporting the negative film F formed with the frame images along the transporting route, a line scanner 2 for reading the image information of the negative film F and the image information read by this line scanner 2. The device described above has a detecting sensor 28 which detects the perforations formed at the negative film F, an edge detecting section 7c which detects the edges from the image information read by the line scanner 2 and an edge position specifying section 7 which specifies the positions of the edges of the image information in accordance with the relative positional relation between the perforation signals outputted from the detecting sensor 28 and the edges detected by the edge detecting section 7c.
