<p>An apparatus (10) for testing at least one joint includes an articulation device (12) and a defect detection system (14). The first joint (16(1)) being tested has an inner race rotatably mounted within an outer race, a driving shaft (20) connected to either the inner race or outer race, and a load bearing shaft (18(1)) connected to the other one of the inner race or outer race. The articulation device (12) connects to the load bearing shaft (18(1)) and articulates the load bearing shaft to articulate the first outer race with respect to the first inner race without rotating the driving and load bearing shafts. The defect detection system (14) includes a sensor (42(1)) that detects vibration signals during the articulation of the first outer race with respect to the first inner race and determines if there is a defect in the first joint (16(1)) based on the detected signals. The defect detected system may include a second sensor (42(2)) that defects vibration signal during the articulation of an outer race of a second joint (16(2)) with respect to an inner race and determines of there is a defect in the second joint based on the detected signals.</p> |
