PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an assay method for urinary trypsin inhibitor for diagnosis, by utilizing the fact that the concentration of urinary trypsin inhibitor (ITU) increase in the urine of a patient suffering from a kidney disease. SOLUTION: The assay for urinary inhibitor containing a chelating agent includes a step for correlating the concentration of urinary trypsin inhibitor with a detectable response generated, when the matrix of trypsin cleaves by the trypsin by bringing a urine sample into contact with a buffering assay medium containing the trypsin and a sufficient quantity of polycarboxylic acid- chelating agent for inhibiting the interference of the matrix of the trypsin and calcium existing in the urine with the assay.
