PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method and a new device each for the decomposition treatment of a halogenated hydrocarbon, which enable the solution of problems in conventional methods and devices for the decomposition treatments of the halogenated hydrocarbon at high temperatures and have excellent safety, reliability and energy saving. SOLUTION: The method for the decomposition treatment of the halogenated hydrocarbon into non-toxic compounds comprises reacting the halogenated hydrocarbon contained in a treating liquid C with an alkali in the presence of a catalyst S under ultrasonic oscillation.
