摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a recording and reproducing characteristic by using a high-output semiconductor laser having the wavelength of a specific range which is longer than a recording and reproducing wavelength to a recording medium and arranging the longitudinal direction of the spot of its laser beam so as to form an angle close to a right angle with respect to the direction of recording tracks to perform an initial crystallization surely and in a short time. SOLUTION: The initializing beam of a laser whose wavelength is 1000 to 3000 nm from a laser module 16 is converged on the recording film of a revolved optical recording medium 26 and moved with a movable mirror 20 and an objective lens 21. An initialization is performed by arranging the longitudinal direction of this beam while making it roughly rectangularly cross with the direction of the tracks and by melting one part of the recording film temporarily while controlling the power and the irradiation time of the beam spot. Thereafter, information are recorded and reproduced by using a laser beam whose wavelength is 600 to 700 nm from the laser module 16. Thus, plural lines of tracks are initialized simultaneously and in the short time without nonuniformity of beams due to an optical interference and variations of lands and grooves and a satisfactory recording and reproduction is made possible.
