COATING COMPOSITION AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING COATING FILM THEREFORM

A coating composition which is of the one-pack type and, despite this, has excellent liquid stability and which can form at ordinary temperature a coating film which dissolves gradually. The coating composition comprises: polyvinyl alcohol; at least one metal salt selected from the group consisting of the chlorides, nitrates, sulfates, sulfonates, carbonates, formates, and acetates of at least one metal ion selected from the group consisting of Cu<SUP>2+</SUP>, Fe<SUP>3+</SUP>, Al<SUP>3+</SUP>, and Cr<SUP>3+</SUP>; and water as a solvent. The metal salt is contained in an amount of from 1/700 to 1/15 in terms of the molar ratio of the metal salt to all structural units of the polyvinyl alcohol.
