A computer system for changing a battery charging mode according to user selection and a control method thereof are provided to select a battery charging speed according to user selection and enable a user to select the battery charging mode with a simple operation. A system unit(110) is equipped with more than one device. A battery unit(130) supplies power to the system unit. A charging unit(140) charges the battery unit at a predetermined charging speed. A user input unit(150) receives a user command for the battery charging speed. A control unit(160) enables the charging unit to charge the battery unit at the charging speed according to the user command. The user inputting unit includes at least one button for selecting a normal mode, a quick charging mode, and a suspended mode. The controller determines selection of the normal, quick charging, or suspended mode according to a pushing state of the button.
