<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to put a fuel cell of a fuel cell system under drying treatment, even if a residue capacity of a secondary battery is lacking. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell system 10 is provided with a cooling water pump 42 fitted to a cooling water piping 36 for conveying cooling water to the fuel cell 12 for sending cooling water under pressure, a cooling water heating device 48 fitted to the cooling water piping 36 for heating cooling water at operation stoppage of the fuel cell 12, and a secondary battery 18 connected to the cooling water pump 42 as well as the cooling water heating device 48 and supplying power to the both 42, 48. At operation stoppage of the fuel cell 12, the cooling water heated is conveyed to the fuel cell 12 to put it 12 under a drying treatment.
