The protective cap (2) has a handle (1), e.g. in the form of a ball, welded or screwed onto it, or made in one with it in the case of newly-manufactured caps. It may be made of a metal such as aluminum, iron or steel, or of polyethylene or polyamide plastic. Aluminum and plastic have the advantages of being comparatively light and less liable to corrosion.
