PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bidirectional converter and an uninterruptible power supply capable of protecting a power conversion circuit from an overcurrent and easily detecting occurrence of a breakdown.SOLUTION: There is provided a bidirectional converter comprising: a current detector 4 configured to detect an instantaneous value of a battery current Ib flowing through a direct-current positive bus bar PL and output a signal &phgr;4 indicating the detected value; and a breakdown detector 9 configured to compare in size an average absolute value of an alternating-current component of the signal &phgr;4 and a threshold value VT, and output a signal &phgr;9 indicating the compared result. Of fuses F1-F6 configured to protect power conversion circuits 1-3 from an overcurrent, when at least one fuse F is blown, an alternating-current component is generated in the battery current Ib, and the signal &phgr;9 becomes "H" level. |
