Automotive automatic gear box with supplementary gear selection

An automotive automatic gear box (2) selector system has selector levers (11) which move through gates to two alternative channels, one of automatic selection and one of manual selection. Each channel has a supplementary sensor (42,201,202) which monitors the position of the gear selector lever. The sensors detect whether the gear selector lever is in the reverse position or neutral position, and are linked to the gear selection control system.
