An optical fiber light conduit (1) with a core (3) of quartz glass containing nitrogen and/or hydrogen and a doping impurity is placed in the path of the ionizing radiation, and the optical losses at two or more different wavelengths in the OH and or NH absorption bands are measured. The mean concentrations of hydrogen and the dosing impurity in the core (3) and sheath (2) of the optical fiber are greater than 5 ppm and in a ratio of at least 2:1. In a variant, the optical fiber can have a buffer core of fluorosilicate.
