1,097,636. Resuscitators. HUTCHINSON BLEASE Ltd. Oct. 3, 1966, No. 44058/66. Heading A5T. A resuscitator which may be used with a source of oxygen at constant pressure to supply the oxygen to the patient as inhalation pulses comprises a constant volume chamber 10 having an inlet orifice 14 and a larger outlet orifice 26, the chamber also including p r e s s u r e-responsive means which controls an exit valve associated with the outlet orifice. As shown, the exit valve 28, 30 is opened against a spring by a rod 46 in a bellows 38, 42 and the pressure in the chamber increases under the influx of oxygen from a flexible, tube 18 until the pressure-responsive bellows cause the valve 28, 30 to open and the oxygen issues through an orifice 56 and a mouthpiece 66 to the patient. The orifice 56 is formed in a diaphragm 52 which acts as a valve against the outlet tube 60 and allows the patient to exhale through the tube 60 into a vent 68. The rod 46 may be linked to the valve part 30 by a toggle mechanism ,(Figure 2, not shown), or the rod may be controlled by a spring-loaded catch (140) and acts directly on the arm 32 associated with the valve part 30 (Figure 3, not shown). In a further embodiment (Figure 4, not shown), the outlet orifice and the exit valve are constituted by bores (164, 168, 170) in the rod 46 and in the chamber base 20 and the rod 46 may be moved against a spring-loaded catch (156) to open the valve by aligning these bores. The resuscitator may be constructed of aluminium and, with a cylinder of compressed oxygen, may be carried for personal use. |
