<p>1515874 Adsorbing apparatus TOYOBO CO Ltd 30 July 1975 [26 Feb 1975] 31905/75 Heading B1L [Also in Division C1] Apparatus for purifying gas comprises at least two adsorptive units, each consisting of one or more adsorptive elements comprising a porous sheet of adsorptive material having a 0.1m/sec pressure loss (A) of not more than 15mm H 2 O, the adsorptive material consisting predominantly of active carbon fibres having an equilibrated adsorption amount of benzene (B) of not less than 300mg/g and adsorption rate constant of benzene (C) of not less than 0.2 and the ratio of the surface of said adsorptive material of each unit to the area of the unit frame (D) being not less than 2. Means are provided for passing hot gas through each unit in turn to desorb it. The expressions A, B, C, D are defined in the specification. In one embodiment a casing 26 mounted on rotatable shaft 25 is subdivided into compartments by radial partitions to provide six adsorptive units 27 each of which comprises three adsorptive elements 34. In use at any time, five adsorptive units are operating to purify gas supplied through inlet 21 and discharged through outlet 22 and the other unit is being desorbed by hot gas supplied through pipe 36 and discharged via pipe 38. The pipes 36 and 38 are raised and lowered respectively by piston/ cylinder assemblies 40 when the shaft is to be rotated. In Fig. 11 (not shown) the adsorptive units are arranged around the sides of a hexagonal chamber rotatable about a horizontal axis.</p> |
