Pressurized coal gasification gases - scrubbed in stages with tar oil at final temperature below oil vaporization point

Gases produced during the gasification of coal under pressure are purified by using a hard coal tar oil with a high boiling curve to scrub the tar-containing and dusty components. The scrubbing is done in several stages; the gas is cooled by the wash oil in successive stages far enough to have in the last scrubbing stage a higher vaporisation point of the oil than the temperature of the gas to be cleaned. This keeps oil losses by vaporisation to a minimum. The following desulphurisation and turbine are not detrimentally affected by oil vapours and mists.
