<p>Rod assembly carries electric current into a chamber used for the treatment of workpieces by high current glow discharges. Treatments such as nitriding, metallising, annealing, hardening etc. may be carried out. The rod passes through an insulator bush in the chamber wall and is then connected either to the workpieces or a frame carrying workpieces. The end of the rod in the chamber is fitted with one or two pivot arms, and a coil spring or a loop spring is located on the end of the arm(s). The top end of the springs is fixed to a ring used for carrying the workpieces. In one pref. design, one coil spring and one pivot arm are mounted on each side of the rod; steel springs are pref. used. The spring supports prevent damage to the rod and/or the cracking of the insulator bush due to the heavy weight and current load.</p> |
