Liquid crystal composition, process for preparing such a composition and its use in display devices

Compound composition of nematic liquid crystals which have satisfactory nematic properties for use in field-effect liquid-crystal display devices. These compositions consist of a mixture of: 1) at least one base substance of the biphenyl type forming a nematic liquid crystal (base NLC); 2) at least one other substance forming a nematic liquid crystal of type other than biphenyl, called nonbiphenyl (additional NLC) supplementing the operating field effect properties of 1) and present in sufficient concentration to impart improved electrooptical properties to the mixture, and 3) at least one second substance forming a nematic liquid crystal of the nonbiphenyl type which is relatively more compatible with the base NLC (biphenyl) than with the additional NLC and present in sufficient concentration for the resulting ternary mixture to have satisfactory nematic properties, giving a liquid-crystal display device of higher quality.
