PHN 9155 In optical communication systems as well as in video disc playback equipment, it is necessary to position a (semiconductor) laser at an exact distance from a first lens of the optical system coupled to the laser. The exact distance between the laser and the lens is realized by arranging the laser in a bush-like cover on which a holder provided with the lens, is arranged with a press fit. The desired exact distance between the laser and the lens is adjusted by relative compression between the cover and the holder. Because the walls of cover and holder which are pressed together with the press fit are covered with a layer of indium, the walls will slide smoothly one over the other during adjustment to the desired distance.
