The lighting unit (1) consists of a handlamp (2), without a shade, fixed to a light source unit (3) on an operating room ceiling, by means of a hinged arm (4). Inside the hinged arm (4) is a fiber optic which feeds light from the cold light source generator to the output (5) of the lamp (2). The arm (4) can slide along the unit (3) by means of a bracket (12) which runs in a slot (11). The light source generator includes a micro-discharge lamp with an electronic ballast.
