Compounds containing both an ethylenically unsaturated group and an opoxide group react with compounds having a group of the formula -NH2, -NHR<4>, -OH, -SH or -COOH to form unsaturated products, for instance having the formula <CHEM> wherein C=C is an ethylenically unsaturated double bond; R<5> or R<6> is alkylene, alkarylene, aralkylene, cycloalkylene or arylene. R<1> is hydrogen, alkyl, alkaryl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, R<2> is a divalent moiety having the formula -COO- or -R<5>-; a is an integer greater than 0; b is 0 or 1; c is 1, 2 or 3; d is 0 or 1; X is -COO-, -S-, NR<4>, -NH or -O-; R<4> is alkyl, alkaryl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, or aryl; and R<3> is hydrogen, alkyl alkaryl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic. These unsaturated products can be incorporated into polymers to provide dispersant, viscosity index-improving additives for lubricant compositions.
