A gun is provided with a pivoting barrel (25) and a cocking and retaining lever (61) which cocks the hammer (34) and retains the barrel in the firing position. When the lever moves to the unlocking position, the barrel is released and the hammer is cocked. When the barrel is loaded, the barrel is pivoted back to the firing position and the lever is moved to the locking position to retain the barrel.
